Valencia Travel Guide

Valencia is a charming old city and the capital of the Old Kingdom of Valencia province of Spain that is well worth a visit.Despite being on the sea, residents say that "Valencia has always lived with its back to the sea", meaning that the spirit of the city is not integrated with its beach.

About Valencia

Valencia covers an area of 134.65 square Km and is estimated to have a population of 1.7 million people being the third largest city in Spain and the capital of Valencia province. It is a major touristic destination attracting millions of visitors every year.

Mercado Central

2635438-mercado_central_market-valencia.jpgThe Mercado Central is home to a large daily food market. Built in 1928, it is a huge glass and metal structure filled with Valencians buying fresh local produce. The best time to visit the market is on weekday mornings. You will be treated to colourful displays of fruits & vegetables, including lots of oranges! There are also numerous deli type stands selling delicious meats, such as Iberian Ham, and all sorts of cheeses.

If you are after fish or seafood, you can also find it here, along with all type of poultry. And of course there are many cuts of meat on offer as well - check out the pig heads in my photo?eeeuuw!! There are also places to buy a coffee/drink or a hot meal if you become ravenous after seeing all of the delicious raw ingredients. I would highly recommend a visit to the market. It is a great way to get a taste for the Valencian way of life.
